Siklis Trek
Aimed at those looking to explore an unspoilt
region, this trek is off the main trails and we are
likely to be warmly welcomed at the villages we pass
through.
The historic hill trek to Siklis - one of the oldest
Gurung settlements and the second largest Gurung
village in Nepal - still retains an aura of the
ancient. Here, the Jhankri (shaman) and Lama
(priest) have important roles in this Buddhist
community, marriage, death and day-today lives of
villagers. Siklis village lies above the Mardi Khola
river(1,981m), overlooking Annapurna IV to the north
and Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal to the east. The
region is particularly good for bird watching
because of its pristine forested surroundings where
different species of birds thrive.

Mustang:
An incredible
trek through an ancient culture!
Few regions of the great Himalayas remain unraveled.
The ancient kingdom of
Mustang in western Nepal is
one of them. Only a handful of foreigners have
crossed the high passes to the valley of Tholung
wherein lies the palace of
Lo-Manthang, the seat of
the king of Mustang, who is still in residence.
The hidden kingdom of Mustang lies beyond the
Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif in central Nepal.
Mustang was opened to trekkers in 1991 and the
Department of Immigration issues only a small number
of special permits yearly. The area is a part of the
Tibetan plateau and the 16th century monasteries
remain active. We fly in to Jomsom and trek for two days along the busy
pilgrim route to
Muktinath before entering
Mustang
at Kagbeni. Mustang's lunar landscape is dominated
by incredible rock-formations with distant
snowcapped peaks under a turquoise sky. The trek
takes us through an ancient culture with monasteries
clinging to crumbling cliff-sides. After five days
of trekking we reach the impressive walled capital
Lo-Manthang where we spend a couple of days
exploring the area. We return to Jomsom and fly back
to Kathmandu. >>read more
Jomsom Trek
The Jomsom trek, as it is generally called, takes
you from Pokhara through the valley of the Kali
Gandaki River to the pilgrim site of
Muktinath.
It's a part of the
Annapurna Circuit Trek, which takes you over the more than 5400m
high Thorung La. The
Jomsom trek is relatively easy,
as it does not go any higher than 3800m. It takes
you through a beautifully diverse area starting at
an elevation of 900m in Pokhara. Gradually climbing
from sub-tropical jungle and fertile fields to
alpine country and beyond
Jomsom to a desert-like
landscape. As you travel further north Tibetan and
Buddhist influences become more obvious. Whereas the
Nepali in the foothills adheres to the Hindu faith,
the highland people are closer, culturally, to the
people of Tibet. Famous for their hospitality are
the Thakali people who inhabit large areas of the
Kali Gandaki valley. All the way on this trek you
can enjoy staying in comfortable lodges; a great way
to get to know
trekking in Nepal.
