Types of
Trekking :
With
the establishment of many inns along the
more popular trekking routes, we can now
provide a lodge (teahouse) trek as a
complete package. An English-speaking native
guide will accompany you and make all the
arrangements for food and accommodations
along the way. We also provide one porter
for every two persons to carry the bulk of
your kit. The standard of accommodation and
food at these inns varies tremendously, but
your guide will select the best available.
Should our itineraries not be to your
satisfaction, you are welcome to design your
own.
Remoteness
Some of the areas in which we operate are very
remote. Consequently, the way of life on our treks
can be very different from that of an ordinary
holiday. If you are not prepared or willing to
accept this, you should not travel with us on these
long, remote treks
Equipment
We will supply all basic communal camping
equipment. This includes all cooking and eating
utensils, two-men tents, dining tent, table and
chairs, foam mats and toilet tent. You will need to
bring a sleeping bag, walking boots, daypack and
other personal items. A full clothing and equipment
list will be sent to you on booking.
Staff
On all our treks we take an experienced team of
guides, cooks and porters or animal drivers who are
managed by a local Sirdar and a chief guide. The
guide will assist trek members at all times and will
encourage group members to walk at their own pace.
One guide will always bring up the rear.
Itinerary
A detailed itinerary will be sent to you on booking,
or on special request. On our holiday, local
weather, politics, transport or a host of other
uncontrollable factors can mean a change in
itinerary. It is very unlikely that an itinerary
would be substantially altered, but should this
become necessary your leader will decide the best
alternative after consulting with the group.
Extensions / Private party
Should you wish to extend your holiday by visiting
areas additional to those in our programme, we will
be happy to help you with your arrangements. We can
also organize tailor-made trips to cover your
favourite area and activity. Special discounts will
be given to private groups.
Season
Trekking is possible at any time of the year
depending on where you are going. The most popular
seasons are spring (Feb-May) and autumn (Sep-Nov).
Winter is very cold above 4,000m and high mountain
passes may have snow, but it is good for trekking at
lower altitude. During the monsoon season
(June-Aug), you can trek in the rain shadow areas of
the northern Himalaya like Manaslu,
Upper
Mustang and Dolpo. These places are out
of reach of the rain clouds because of the high
mountains and are unaffected by the monsoon. |
